How to Use PayPal Pay in 4 On Amazon (Complete Guide)

There's no doubt that the convenience of shopping online is out of the ordinary, especially when it comes to making payments.

Over the years, more and more payment methods have been introduced to the e-commerce sector and one of the popular options right now is buy now, pay later (BNPL) —a payment method that lets you pay for your purchases in different installments (typically 4 installments).

This new way to pay has become even more convenient that popular payment services like PayPal have started offering it through a feature known as "Pay in 4" allowing customers to shop with freedom.

If you are looking to leverage the convenience of this payment method while shopping at one of the most popular retailers out there, Amazon, you've come to the right place.

In this guide, I'll show you how you can use PayPal Pay in 4 for your payments on Amazon.

Does Amazon Accept PayPal Pay in 4?

If you've had to shop at Amazon before, you should already be aware that PayPal is not featured as a payment method on Amazon. And since PayPal isn't featured on Amazon, it means Amazon does not accept PayPal Pay in 4 as well.

But why does Amazon not accept PayPal despite PayPal being a popular and secure way to pay? It's clear as rocky waters—Amazon has its own digital payment service, Amazon Pay that works more like PayPal.

Amazon is also one of the stores that offer payment plans—allowing customers to shop now and pay later with flexible installments through services like Amazon Monthly Payments, Pay Over Time With Affirm, and Amazon Layaway.

How to Use PayPal Pay in 4 On Amazon

Amazon neither accepts PayPal, nor PayPal's BNPL feature, Pay in 4 directly—that's a fact.

However, there are a couple of walkarounds that will let you use PayPal Pay in 4 on Amazon. Of course, this will be indirect.

1. Purchase Amazon Gift Cards

This is the most straightforward indirect way to use PayPal Pay in 4 on Amazon. I know it might sound crazy but it is.

First, you'll need to look for a retailer that accepts PayPal Pay in 4 for purchasing gift cards. A good option I recently discovered is Woolworths Gift Cards.

But you also have options like Gyft, GiftCardGranny, and even PayPal itself.

Once you've found a platform that accepts PayPal Pay in 4 for purchasing Amazon gift cards, you'll just need to follow the steps below to get yourself a gift card:

  1. Browse through their gift card categories and select Amazon gift cards.
  2. Add the gift card to your cart and proceed to checkout.
  3. Once at the checkout, select "Pay in 4" as a payment method and complete your purchase.

After purchasing your Amazon gift card, you'll just need to go to the Amazon website and redeem your Amazon gift card to start using it.

2. Use the Single-Use Pay in 4 Virtual Card

If you are a Pay in 4 eligible customers, you have the possibility to create a single-use virtual card number. This single-use card as its name suggests can only be used once and offers all the security and privacy you need when making purchases online.

You can create a single-use virtual card and link to Amazon for payments. You'll only be able to use a virtual card number once, so you'll need to optimize your order in such a way that it'll be convenient for you.

Only use this method if the first method isn't convenient for you as there's less chance that this one might work. According to a recent research I conducted through social media, only 13 percent out of 65 consumers succeeded in using this method.

The reason for this decreased success rate is that the card here is a single-use virtual card—once it is used, it no longer has value and Amazon has sophisticated systems to recognize this kind of card.

3. Get Started with an Amazon Payment Plan

The last and best option I recommend is to opt in for an Amazon payment plan. As mentioned earlier, Amazon offers three different payment plans and all you'll need to do is select one make sure you're eligible for it, and start making flexible payments on Amazon.

Why Doesn't Amazon Accept PayPal?

Amazon does not accept PayPal as a payment method because it already offers its own digital payment service, Amazon Pay that offers the same benefits as PayPal would when shopping on the Amazon store and at Amazon.com.

PayPal Pay in 4 Amazon Not Working

PayPal Pay in 4 does not work directly with Amazon since the retailer does not accept PayPal in the first place. The only way you get to use PayPal Pay in 4 on Amazon is through Amazon gift cards and the PayPal single-use virtual card as shown above.

Final Thoughts

PayPal Pay in 4 is a rapidly growing payment option that offers the flexibility we need when looking to shop now and pay later.

While PayPal Pay in 4 is fast growing, stores like Amazon haven't adopted it as a payment method, making it directly impossible to use Pay in 4 either in Amazon stores or at Amazon.com.

However, you can use PayPal Pay in 4 on Amazon indirectly through Amazon gift cards and Pay in 4 single-use cards. If none of these methods work for you, I recommend you use any of Amazon's payment plans.
